Sahitya Akademi translation award for Maithili writer

Muzaffarpur: A total of 23 authors have won the Sahitya Akademi's translation prize for 2015. Devendra Jha's Maithili book--'Badali Jaichh Ghare Ta' has been selected under the category of translation prize.
Jha had translated a Bangla novel-'Bari Badle Jai'. The author was informed about the Akademi's selection committee's decision taken on Monday.
A retired head of the department of Maithili in Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University (BRABU), and a native of Basaith Chanpura under Madhubani district, Jha had also translated another Bangla novel 'Anubhav', written by Divyendu Palit.

Jha has penned altogether 13 books in Maithili including one on Vidyapati which was later on published by the Sahitya Akademi as well.
The award comes with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a copper plaque. The prizes will be handed out at a function later this year.
During his stint in LS College from 1968 to 1983 and in post-graduate department of Maithili in BRABU till his retirement in 2003, he guided 24 Ph.D. and two D.Litt students.
A number of Maithili poets and literateurs have congratulated Jha for his selection.
